Judicial Clerkships
“We find that young lawyers who have served in judicial clerkships bring many advantages with them. Not only have they had an intense apprenticeship in legal writing and research, but they have had a unique opportunity to witness…and evaluate…effective advocacy. They are better equipped to become powerful and convincing advocates as a result.”
- Jeffrey E. Stone, Chair, Trial Department
More than 110 of our lawyers have judicial clerkship experience. Associates who join McDermott directly from a one year clerkship with a United States federal court or the highest court in any state and the District of Columbia will receive a $50,000 clerkship bonus and one year class credit. Associates joining us from a Federal Circuit clerkship will receive a $70,000 bonus and one year class credit. In addition, those associates who complete an eligible clerkship of 2 years or more, will receive a total bonus of $70,000 and up to two years class credit may be given based on the practice area and length or number of clerkships.
To assist our summer associates who have an interest in pursuing a judicial clerkship, we invite our summer associates to participate in The McDermott Judicial Clerkship Mentoring Program. Summer Associates are paired with McDermott attorneys who are former clerks with the goal of providing counsel and guidance on the different clerkships available and the clerkship application process.
