Lateral Associate Recruiting

As a lateral-hire corporate associate, I have been pleasantly surprised by the collegiality at McDermott.  There is a team approach that’s lacking at other firms.  In my mind, three attributes clearly set McDermott apart from the other top tier firms.  First, the variety of the corporate practice.  McDermott has an entrepreneurial atmosphere, and as a result is engaged by a wide range of clients for the full range of corporate transactions.  The firm’s broad corporate practice has already substantially expanded my corporate lawyer skill-set.  Second McDermott is serious about training.  The firm provides weekly corporate lectures by firm partners, as well as other training opportunities throughout the year.  Finally, McDermott actively encourages and supports associate career planning.  This is a unique program among law firms and gives associates greater control over their professional development.  Although the corporate law firm model trend is toward higher billing and higher turnover, McDermott has differentiated itself and shown true leadership by committing to invest in the development and the future of its lawyers.
