Italy's Graduate Recruitment Programme

Here we can give you the best of both worlds – the opportunity to work in a predominantly Italian culture, while drawing on the expertise and reach of a major international firm.

Our Graduate Recruitment Programme
We are seeking the brightest, best and most entrepreneurial graduates.  Our training programme is deliberately exclusive, and our trainees are self-reliant, academic high fliers who want to make their mark.

Achievers and high performing professionals are highly valued and we consider them to be the backbone of our firm.  To make sure that the best performers gain adequate recognition we have a structured HR process to support their career development.

We offer broad-based training working with acknowledged “leaders in their field” who are rated by our clients, our peers, and the leading legal directories.

We recruit both law and fiscal (dottori commericalisti) graduates with top marks and fluent English. Experience studying and working abroad is appreciated, as well as fluency in other European languages.

Trainees are considered for promotion to associate positions (lawyers or commercialisti, Italian tax professionals) after they have passed their professional exams.

Interviews are conducted by partners within the firm.  Our trainees are usually assigned to a team headed by a partner, and become part of a practice group.

The Role
We provide business-oriented legal and tax advice to multinational and Italian corporations, financial institutions, investment banks and private clients. As such we regularly act on highly complex high value transactions, assignments and litigation. We operate across a number of practice groups focusing on the diverse needs of our European and international client base.

As a Trainee with McDermott Will & Emery, you will be expected to assist in the provision of legal or tax services and the giving of advice to clients of the firm to the highest standard.  As such you will therefore need to keep up-to-date with the relevant areas of law, tax and practice, and understand and comply with Italian rules of professional conduct.  You will also need to attend external and/or internal training courses as appropriate.

Teamwork
To achieve your objectives you will be expected to work as part of a team with partners, associates, trainees and support staff as and when appropriate.  You must therefore be capable of delegating tasks and supervising where appropriate, as team work and interpersonal skills are highly valued by the firm.

Culture
We value our people and our culture is open, dynamic and entrepreneurial.  You will find our teams friendly and supportive.
