McDermott+Consulting (McDermottPlus) is a Washington DC-based healthcare consulting and data analytics firm, serving a wide range of clients including health systems, physician groups, health plans, diagnostic manufacturers, medical device manufacturers, and other healthcare clients. The candidate will support clients and consultants with ongoing data analytics support as our clients’ needs expand in a changing environment that includes payment reform, measuring quality of care, and achieving cost efficiencies in care delivery. Ideal candidates are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple project deadlines, have independent problem-solving skills and can work collaboratively in a team environment.

McDermottPlus is seeking a Health Policy Director to support clients with ongoing lobbying and policy analysis. Ideal candidates are strong writers, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and managing multiple project deadlines. Additionally, candidates should have solid political awareness, leadership experience, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative manner. Candidates should have established relationships with congressional offices, as well as direct experience and a deep understanding of the legislative and political process. The ability to engage clients and government officials in a professional manner is also required.

As a Health Policy Director, candidates will have critical responsibilities related to lobbying and policy strategy development and implementation on behalf of clients.

As a Health Policy Director you will:

  • Interacting with staff in Congressional and Federal agency offices on behalf of clients, including securing, preparing for, and attending meetings on Capitol Hill or with the Administration.
  • Drafting white papers, advocacy materials, one-pagers, letters, and witness testimony on behalf of clients.
  • Assisting clients with building their brand in Washington, DC, by leveraging relationships with stakeholders.
  • Managing projects and assignments from Vice Presidents and Partners.
  • Helping to develop strategies and tactics for clients.
  • Assisting with mentorship and oversight of junior consultants.
  • Writing articles, thought pieces, analysis, and summaries on policy developments, including legislation, executive orders, and regulations for clients and external audiences.
  • Participating in firm business development and marketing activities including proposal and pitch writing, product development, relationship building, and other activities as requested and identified.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s in related field preferred
  • At least 8 years related work experience
  • Health care policy experience is required, preferred experience working in Congress or at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) or Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
  • Willingness to register to lobby on clients’ behalf
  • Ability to manage high-priority projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to bring projects to successful completion
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytic, research and writing skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Familiarity and relationships with major healthcare industry stakeholders (associations, advocates, and government agencies).
  • Ability to travel and work flexible and/or fluctuating hours
