As a first-generation law student, finding strong mentorship was a priority for me. I wanted to join a firm where I could grow both professionally and personally under the guidance of experienced attorneys. During my interview with McDermott’s Healthcare team, I felt an immediate connection. Their approachability and expertise reassured me that this was the right place to foster my development.
Choosing McDermott meant more than joining a top firm; it meant surrounding myself with brilliant and supportive attorneys. I knew I would be in an environment where I could continuously learn, be challenged, and receive the mentorship I had been searching for.
One of the most surprising and impressive aspects of my experience at McDermott this past summer was witnessing just how deeply interconnected the firm’s various practice teams and offices are. I had anticipated working closely with attorneys within my immediate team, but what truly amazed me was the extent of cross-team and cross-office collaboration that took place on a regular basis. It was not uncommon for me to engage with attorneys from entirely different practice areas, leveraging their specialized expertise to advance a deal. Even more striking was the ease with which we worked with colleagues located in offices across the country. It reinforced the importance of teamwork and adaptability in a global legal environment.
The most significant highlight of my summer at McDermott was undoubtedly the connections I formed with my fellow summer associates. While gaining valuable professional experience was a key objective, the relationships I developed with my peers truly enriched my time at the firm. By the end of the program, I found myself not only gaining a deeper understanding of the legal profession but also finding an expansive network of colleagues and many life-long friends. The support, camaraderie, and mutual encouragement we shared throughout the summer created a strong sense of community that extended well beyond the work itself.
